What are platysmal bands?
The Platysma muscle is a long, sheet-like muscle that runs from the jawline down to the décolletage. Shortening of this muscle causes a downward pull on the skin of the lower face giving the appearance of vertical bands that run from the jawline to the collarbones, commonly referred to as a ‘Turkey neck’.
What is botox in the platysmal bands used for?
Patients who have prominent platysmal bands, often known as ‘Turkey Neck’ can benefit from botox injections in the neck, which relax the muscles and create a softer appearance over time.
