What is IPL?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses controlled pulses of broad-spectrum light to target a variety of skin concerns. By gently heating the skin, IPL stimulates natural collagen production and encourages cellular renewal, helping to improve overall skin tone, clarity, and texture.
Over a course of treatments, patients typically notice a brighter, more even complexion with reduced sun damage, redness, and visible signs of ageing.
How Does IPL Work?
IPL is not a laser; instead, it delivers a broad range of light wavelengths that can treat multiple skin concerns simultaneously. The light energy is absorbed by targeted pigments in the skin, such as pigmentation, redness and broken capillaries, converting light into heat.
This controlled heat breaks down unwanted pigmentation and damaged blood vessels while stimulating collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin. The body then naturally clears the treated pigment and vessels over time, resulting in clearer, healthier-looking skin.
IPL is particularly effective for:
- Acne
- Acne Scarring
- Rosacea
- Melasma
- Pigmentation
- Skin Rejuvenation
- Stretch Marks
- Surgery Scarring
- Thread Veins
- Sun Spots
- Keratosis
- Freckles
- Port Wine Stain
- Vascular Lesions
- Age Spots
- Lentingine
For rosacea specifically, IPL targets oxyhaemoglobin within dilated blood vessels, causing them to collapse and be reabsorbed by the body, leading to a visible reduction in redness and flushing.
Treatment Experience & Results
IPL treatments are quick and well tolerated, with most patients experiencing minimal discomfort and little to no downtime. You can usually return to normal activities immediately following treatment.
Results vary depending on the concern being treated, and a course of sessions is often recommended to achieve optimal, long-lasting improvement. Skin continues to improve over time as collagen production increases and damaged cells are naturally replaced.
Patch test is needed 48 hours prior to treatment.
